Keeping Company at 50
By John W. Kennedy | August 19, 2008
USA Today last week published an article about famous people who are turning 50 this year. Alas, I didn’t make the list, even though I qualify on the age part.
I’m not sure I’m all that excited to be in the company of some of the more noteworthy babies born in 1958. Many of them seem to be most famous for their bad behavior or image. Maybe it was growing up in the ‘60s that’s responsible. Those mentioned in the article include Madonna, Prince, Sharon Stone, Michael Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres, Ice-T and Nikki Sixx.
Scripture (2 Corinthians 5:17) teaches that we don’t have to be confined by the group from which we originate. If we hail from a dysfunctional, criminal or immoral family, there can be redemption through Christ.
Not everyone born in 1958 is significant for infamous deeds. Today’s Pentecostal Evangel Art Director Matt Key—who turns 50 in November—is one of the most stable, upright and compassionate guys I know.

I join you on turning a half Century this year. I wanted to say I have never been in the “Police Beat” section of the paper, but back in 78, I did get a speeding ticket that was recorded there, LOL.
